Camper Ages

Camper's AgeWhat age campers do you serve?

Short answer: 3 - 12yrs (with some exceptions)

Long Answer: Cherokee is proud to host campers beginning at age three. These campers must be potty trained. This is not because we are too lazy to change diapers. No, conversely this is due to PA pool regulations. If a camper had an accident in a pool we would have to shut down the pool, drain it, sanitize it, and then refill it with cold water, essentially ruining the summer for all other campers. And since all campers swim and increase their swimming skills throughout the summer this is an understandable concern.

Additionally, Cherokee also hosts campers up to age twelve. Beyond age twelve, Cherokee will host campers up to age 13-15 in our C.I.T. (Counselors In Training) Program. C.I.T.'s are young adults who exhibit responsibility, a yearning to learn, and to share their knowledge along with appropriate interpersonal skills to act as an aide to the Senior Counselor in any bunk or group. These young adults will enjoy camp as a camper, as they have in years past. They will have FUN! FUN! FUN! However, for their assistance to the Senior Counselors, and for taking on added responsibility, they will receive a discounted rate in tuition! This agreement is generally viewed as a WIN/WIN for both parents seeking a wholesome summer experience for their older children, and young adults looking to increase their skill sets and to have some real life experience to insert into a resume as they transition into the competitive working world.

As you might imagine, not every child interested in becoming a C.I.T. is accepted. These young adults must understand that in order to qualify they will be relied upon in certain situations to perform a variety of minor tasks.  They must exhibit maturity, as they will serve as an example to younger campers who will be looking up to them.

Feel absolutely free to reach out to us with any questions relating to any of the above. We look forward to hosting your children this summer!
